The abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel at the top of the rock

The venue

A medieval abbey built on a rocky islet, one of the most visited cultural sites in France. Founded in 966 with the arrival of Benedictine monks, the Abbey of Mont-Saint-Michel, in Normandy, is today run by the Monastic Fraternities of Jerusalem. It has been a listed historic monument since 1862.

The site has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979 under the name “Mont-Saint-Michel and its Bay”. The visit takes in the abbey church, whose transept crossing rests on the summit of the rock, and the Merveille, a group of six halls on three levels built between 1211 and 1228, with its cloister.

For groups : Booking is compulsory for all groups: online from 10 people for the self-guided visit, in time slots of 50 or 100 visitors, and through the reservations department for the lecture tour, limited to 30 people. The booked slot must be respected, otherwise the group is turned away; on arrival, it uses a dedicated queue, each visitor presenting a timed ticket, and the group leader must stay with the group from start to finish. Groups are not admitted during the European Heritage Days, and coaches are subject to the reception policy of the Établissement public du Mont-Saint-Michel.
