The venue
An aquarium devoted to the seas and oceans of the world, the former Mare Nostrum aquarium is located in the Odysseum leisure area in Montpellier. Opened in 2007, it merged in 2018 with the neighbouring Galilée planetarium: the complex is now called Planet Ocean Montpellier and is one of the most visited sites in the Hérault.
The tour brings together some 300 species. Its central tank is 10 metres high and 18 metres in diameter. There is also a hurricane and storm-at-sea simulator, educational areas and games for children all along the route, and a « Universe » area devoted to discovering our galaxy.
For groups : The group rate applies from 20 people; booking in advance with the reservation department is recommended, but tickets can also be bought on site on the day. The visit, independent and unguided, gives access to the aquarium as well as the astronomy areas and lasts about two hours. Picnics are not allowed on site, where a café is open at certain times of the year.
