The venue
Offshoot of the Centre Pompidou with iconic architecture. Opened in 2010 in Metz, between the Parc de la Seille and the railway station, the Centre Pompidou-Metz was the first decentralisation of a national public cultural institution, in this case the Centre Pompidou in Paris. It is one of the most visited museums in France outside Paris.
The building, designed by Shigeru Ban and Jean de Gastines with Philip Gumuchdjian, is topped by a vast timber-framed roof inspired by a Chinese hat. It houses three 80-metre-long exhibition galleries whose windows look out over the city and the cathedral. Its exhibitions bring modern art and contemporary creation together.
For groups : All group visits must be booked in advance. Guided tours last 1 hour, 1 hour 30 or 2 hours, the two-hour format covering two themes, and focus on the exhibitions or on the architecture and history of the building; a one-hour guided tour takes a maximum of 30 people, including accompanying adults. Groups can also visit an exhibition independently, with mediators present in the galleries to offer insights.
