The venue
Medieval fortress housing the Apocalypse Tapestry, the largest surviving set of medieval tapestries in the world. Built by Louis IX in the 13th century, the castle of the Dukes of Anjou was turned into a lordly residence in the 15th century; King René was born there.
Since 1954, the tapestry has been displayed in a long gallery built specially for it. Made in the late 14th century for Duke Louis I of Anjou, it illustrates the Apocalypse of John in six pieces of fourteen scenes each. It has been on UNESCO’s Memory of the World Register since 2023. The site is managed by the Centre des monuments nationaux.
