The venue
The tallest château in France, with seven storeys and 204 rooms. A former fortress of the Counts of Anjou built in the 11th century, Brissac has belonged to the Cossé-Brissac family since the 16th century and is still the residence of the Dukes of Brissac. It lies some fifteen kilometres from Angers.
Rebuilt in the early 17th century by the architect Jacques Corbineau, the château hosted a reconciliation meeting between Louis XIII and his mother, Marie de’ Medici, in 1620. It houses a theatre created in 1890 over two floors. Its monumental façades rise above a large landscaped park.
For groups : Adult groups are welcome from 20 people, on reservation, with free admission for the group leader and the driver. The visit ends with a commented tasting of the estate’s wines in the château’s cellar. Groups of up to 50 people can have lunch in the medieval kitchens, with an Anjou menu cooked over a wood fire, to be booked at least 20 days in advance.
