The venue
A furnished classical château that inspired Hergé’s Marlinspike Hall. Built in the 17th century in a strictly classical style, the Château de Cheverny, in Sologne, is a listed historic monument. It is still the residence of the Marquis de Vibraye family, who opened it to the public in 1922.
It is renowned for its rich interiors, its works of art and tapestries, and for the painted decoration by Jean Mosnier. Highlights include the armoury and the King’s Bedchamber, hung with tapestries after Simon Vouet. A permanent exhibition is devoted to Hergé’s work and Marlinspike Hall. The château lies very close to Chambord and Blois.
For groups : A group consists of at least 20 paying people, with a single ticket for all, and booking by telephone is compulsory; during school holidays and some spring weekends, groups are only received at set times. The visit of the château and gardens takes about 1 h 30 to 1 h 45, with a guided tour option; it can be extended with the Moulinsart exhibition (2 h 15 to 2 h 30 in total) or with a tour of the forest park by electric boat and cart, from April to November (2 h 30 to 3 h). A covered picnic area is located at the entrance of the jardin de l'amour. The château is entered via a flight of ten steps without a ramp, after which the ground floor is level.
