The venue
Renaissance château famous for the letters of Madame de Sévigné. Built on a rocky outcrop overlooking the village of Grignan, in Provençal Drôme, the former stronghold of the Adhémar family was turned into a Renaissance residence in the late 15th and 16th centuries. Madame de Sévigné made three long stays here with her daughter, who had become Countess of Grignan.
Partly demolished during the Revolution, the château was rebuilt in the early 20th century on the initiative of Marie Fontaine, then acquired in 1979 by the Drôme département. The visit brings to life the history of the Adhémar family and the memory of the marquise, from this promontory overlooking the Saint-Sauveur collegiate church and the Provençal countryside.
For groups : All groups book using a reservation form, and time slots can be reserved before the château opens to the public. Three guided formats are offered: a 1 hour 15 discovery tour covering a thousand years of the château's history, a 30-minute quick tour and a 1 hour 15 themed tour entitled « Noblesse oblige ». Guided tours are organised for groups of 25 people, and a group rate applies from 20 people.
