The venue
Château once owned by Talleyrand, with fine Empire-period furniture. Located in Valençay, in the Indre, in the Berry region, its architecture links it to the châteaux of the Loire, Chambord in particular. Its rebuilding was begun in the 16th century by the d’Estampes family, before Talleyrand acquired it in 1803 at Bonaparte’s instigation.
Talleyrand had the residence restored and the park turned into an English-style garden. From 1808 to 1813, the château served as a place of house arrest for the former King Ferdinand VII of Spain. Its drawing rooms and bedrooms still hold sumptuous furniture, mainly from the Empire period, despite sales at the end of the 19th century. The château and several parts of the estate are listed historic monuments.
For groups : Groups can explore the château with a guide, a format reserved for groups, or on a self-guided visit. Group visits are booked with the château, and there is a restaurant on the estate.
