The Hall of Mirrors at the Palace of Versailles and its chandeliers

The venue

A former royal residence, with the Hall of Mirrors and formal French gardens. Commissioned by Louis XIV to glorify the monarchy, the château was the main residence of Louis XIV, Louis XV and Louis XVI. The king, the court and the government lived there from 1682 to 1789, except during the Regency years.

A masterpiece of classical architecture, the château has 2,300 rooms, about a thousand of which are used by the national museum. The park covers 815 hectares and includes the Grand and Petit Trianon, the Queen’s Hamlet, the Grand Canal and the Orangery. A group visit can thus combine the state apartments, the gardens and the Trianon estate.

For groups : Only a booked visit guarantees a group a time slot with direct access to the palace and allows its guide-lecturer to speak inside; themed 1 hour 30 minute tours with a palace guide-lecturer are also offered to groups of 8 to 25 people. Audiophones are compulsory for all groups of five or more, except school groups and special audiences, and can be hired on site. Groups enter through Entrance B, preferably via the Chapel gate, which is less crowded, while guided tours start from the North Ministers' Wing. Coaches park on the Place d'Armes, in front of the palace, and at the Carrefour des Trianon in the park.
