The venue
Former residence of the Dukes of Savoy, the château is now home to the Departmental Council of Savoie, as well as the prefecture. This former fortified castle in Chambéry, whose origins date back to the 11th century, has been remodelled several times and has kept an administrative role since the 13th century.
The complex brings together buildings from different periods, including the Treasury Tower, the half-round tower and the Sainte-Chapelle. The chapel housed the Holy Shroud from 1502 to 1578, and its decoration was restored between 2009 and 2012. Its bell tower holds a large carillon of 70 bells, made by the Paccard foundry. The château is a listed historic monument.
For groups : Groups discover the castle with the Chambéry Montagnes tourist office, whose 2-hour guided tour, starting from the Hôtel de Cordon, combines the lanes and traboules of the old town with the Sainte-Chapelle and the history of the Dukes of Savoy, for up to 30 people. A concert on the carillon of the Tour Yolande, next to the Sainte-Chapelle, can also be booked for a group, on the Place du Château.
