The venue
The royal château of Blois spans five centuries of French architecture and was a residence of kings. Located in the heart of the town, on the right bank of the Loire, it was the favourite residence of the kings of France during the Renaissance. Around a single courtyard, it brings together buildings ranging from the Middle Ages to the Classical period.
Among them are the Louis XII wing, built at the very beginning of the 16th century, and the Francis I wing with its monumental staircase. The great Hall of the Estates recalls the Estates General summoned by Henry III, and it was in the château that the Duke of Guise was assassinated in 1588. The royal apartments, restored in the 19th century by Félix Duban, are furnished and decorated in polychrome.
For groups : Groups of 20 or more paying visitors benefit from a dedicated rate, and admission is free for the group leader and the driver. The château can be visited independently, with a HistoPad or an audio guide, in 1 to 1.5 hours, or on a guided tour by reservation: a general tour of about one hour for up to 35 people, a 2-hour private tour of areas usually closed to the public for 18 people, or an evening tour from October to February. Guided tours are offered in seven languages, and the 45-minute sound and light show has audio translation in ten languages.
