The venue
The fortified historic heart of Bastia, the Citadel is home to the Palace of the Genoese Governors. Founded by the Genoese at the end of the 14th century on a rocky promontory overlooking the harbour, it forms the Terra Nova district, the oldest in the town.
Its ramparts and monumental gate are listed historic monuments, as are the façades of the Governors’ Palace, which now houses the Bastia Museum, devoted to the history of the town. In the narrow streets you will find the Church of Sainte-Croix, where the Black Christ of the Miracles is venerated, and the Cathedral of Sainte-Marie, both listed. The San Gerolamo bastion overlooks the Romieu garden and the Old Port.
For groups : The Musée de Bastia, housed in the Governors' Palace, welcomes groups at a dedicated rate and is accessible to people with reduced mobility. From April to November, the guided tour « Les Legendines », offered with Bastia Tourisme and open to groups, starts from Place Saint-Nicolas and ends inside the citadel; given in French, it includes a private concert of polyphonic singing in an oratory and a tasting of local produce.
