The venue
Major science museum, with interactive exhibitions and La Géode. Opened in 1986 in the Parc de la Villette in Paris, the Cité des Sciences et de l’Industrie occupies the rehabilitated structure of the former abattoirs, transformed by the architect Adrien Fainsilber. Its mission is to make science and technology accessible to all, especially children and teenagers.
The permanent exhibitions cover many scientific subjects, including space exploration. The Cité des enfants offers areas for 2-7 year-olds and 5-10 year-olds. Next door, La Géode, a geodesic dome housing a hemispherical cinema, completes the visit.
For groups : Groups are welcome from 10 people, with compulsory booking at least 21 days in advance. Guided tours are offered in French and English, and a mediator can help design a route suited to the group. Coaches can drop groups off on site, and the venue has a picnic area as well as cafés and a restaurant. The Cité is wheelchair accessible and holds the Tourisme & Handicap label for all four types of disability.
