The venue

Sites and museums tracing the Allied landings of 6 June 1944. Allied troops landed on the beaches of western Calvados and the north-east of the Cotentin peninsula, in the Utah Beach, Omaha Beach, Gold Beach, Juno Beach and Sword Beach sectors. Arromanches was home to the artificial harbour built by the Allies.

Prefabricated in England and assembled on the Normandy coast, this Mulberry harbour was used to supply the troops during the Battle of Normandy. On the seafront esplanade, the D-Day Museum, opened in 1954, explains how it was built and operated through models, a diorama and period objects. Its large windows look out over the remains of the harbour.

For groups : At the Musée du Débarquement in Arromanches, groups of 20 or more receive a group rate and must book at least 7 days in advance. The visit is made with audio guides available in ten languages and included in the ticket, and lasts 1 hour 30 minutes on average; a film is shown in nine languages. The museum is wheelchair accessible, with lifts to the upper floor.
