The multicoloured glazed-tile roofs of the Hôtel-Dieu at the Hospices de Beaune

The venue

A 15th-century Gothic hospital famous for its polychrome roofs of glazed Burgundy tiles. The Hôtel-Dieu was founded by Nicolas Rolin, chancellor of the Dukes of Burgundy, and his wife Guigone de Salins. It remained in use until the 1960s.

Listed as a historic monument since 1862, the building is now a museum of the history of medicine. Among other works, it displays Rogier van der Weyden’s Last Judgement polyptych. The site is also inseparable from its wine estate, whose wines are sold at the Hospices de Beaune auction to fund the institution.

For groups : Groups of 10 to 35 people per time slot are welcomed by reservation for a one-hour commented tour, offered every day. The tour can be given in French, English, German, Italian or Japanese. The booking is confirmed on receipt of a signed quote, and admission is free for one coach driver and one group leader per group.
