The pink-brick manor of Clos Lucé and its lawn

The venue

Leonardo da Vinci’s last home, with gardens and models of his inventions. In the centre of Amboise, the former manor of Le Cloux was a residence of the kings of France before Francis I placed it at Leonardo’s disposal in 1516; he lived there until his death in 1519.

The visit takes in the artist’s reconstructed bedroom, kitchen and workshop, as well as Anne of Brittany’s oratory. In the basement, forty models built from his drawings are on display. In the 7-hectare park, giant machines inspired by his sketches and a garden devoted to his studies of plants extend the discovery.

For groups : Groups are welcome from 20 people, for a self-guided or guided visit, in French, English, German, Spanish or Italian; a group visit lasts about 2 hours on average. The site also offers a Renaissance lunch served in period costume at the Auberge du Prieuré, wine tastings and full-day programmes. Coach parking is available.
