The venue
The MuMa holds one of the richest Impressionist collections in France: together with the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Rouen, it is the most important outside Paris. Opened in 1961 by André Malraux, then Minister of Culture, this fine arts museum stands in Le Havre, by the sea, at the entrance to the port.
Eugène Boudin is represented by more than 200 paintings, alongside Monet, Renoir, Pissarro and the Le Havre painters Raoul Dufy and Othon Friesz. The building, glazed on five sides, is bathed in the changing light of the Seine estuary, the very light that inspired many of the painters on display. In front of it stands Le Signal, a monumental sculpture by Henri-Georges Adam.
For groups : Groups visit the museum with compulsory booking, either independently with an audio guide or with a guide who presents a temporary exhibition or part of the collections for 1 hour 30 minutes. Guided tours are given in French or English, other languages can be arranged with the Le Havre tourist office, and tailor-made workshops are possible on a case-by-case basis. Group size depends on the capacity limits in force at the time of the visit.
