The venue
One of the richest military history museums in the world, with Napoleon’s tomb. A national museum housed in the Hôtel des Invalides in Paris, the Musée de l’Armée was created in 1905 by merging the Artillery Museum and the Historical Army Museum. Its collections cover the history of France from Prehistory to the Second World War.
The visit brings together several major areas: ancient arms and armour, a collection ranked third in the world in importance, the period from Louis XIV to Napoleon III, the two World Wars, artillery and the Charles de Gaulle Historial. Beneath the Dôme des Invalides lie Napoleon I, since 1840, as well as Vauban, Turenne, Foch and Lyautey.
For groups : Adult groups of 10 to 99 people are welcomed for self-guided visits, larger groups on specific request, with booking required at least two weeks in advance. Guided tours are led by professional guides in French, English, Spanish, Russian, Italian and German. The ticket gives access to the collections, the Dôme church, the Historial Charles de Gaulle, the Musée des Plans-reliefs and the Musée de l'Ordre de la Libération. Coaches drop visitors off at Place Vauban, where they can park.
