The venue
Collection of vintage vehicles housed in a château on the banks of the Saône. Opened in 1960 in Rochetaillée-sur-Saône, near Lyon, the museum displays the collection assembled by Henri Malartre from the 1930s onwards. It became a museum of the city of Lyon in 1972.
Cars, motorcycles, bicycles and Lyon public transport vehicles trace more than a century of locomotion, from animal traction to electric traction. The oldest cars are displayed in the château, the others in the Gordini and Pradel halls. Notable pieces include a 1936 Citroën 2CV prototype and General de Gaulle’s Hispano-Suiza.
For groups : Group visits are by advance reservation only. Two one-hour guided tours are offered, one covering the whole collection (cars, bicycles, motorcycles, posters and public transport), the other devoted to 20th-century vehicles and accessible to people with reduced mobility; the group then has free access to all the exhibition areas. As the buildings are not air-conditioned, the museum recommends morning visits in hot weather.
