The venue
A retrospective of the legendary motor race and its vehicles, the 24 Hours of Le Mans Museum is located near the main entrance to the circuit in Le Mans. Founded in 1961 as the Sarthe motor museum, it has borne its current name since 2017 and traces the history of the motor car, the circuit and the race.
Across 5,000 m² of exhibition space, it displays around 120 vehicles, including some forty racing cars and around fifteen winners of the race. Visitors can also see older models, such as Bollée cars and an 1885 De Dion-Bouton steam Dog Cart, a collection of models of every car that has taken part in the race since 1923, and a workshop where vehicles can be seen being restored.
For groups : Groups book a themed guided tour of the museum on quotation: the history of the 24 Hours of Le Mans or motorsport in 1 hour 30 minutes, or the treasures of the collections in 1 hour 45 minutes. The two-hour guided behind-the-scenes tour of the circuit gives access to race control, the podium and the commentators' box, buildings that can only be visited with a guide.
