The venue
A museum of the arts and civilisations of Africa, Asia, Oceania and the Americas, the Musée du Quai Branly – Jacques Chirac stands on the banks of the Seine, at the foot of the Eiffel Tower. Designed by the architect Jean Nouvel, it opened in 2006 and since 2016 has borne the name of Jacques Chirac, who initiated the project.
A long, winding ramp leads to the collections plateau, a 200-metre gallery kept in semi-darkness to protect the most fragile objects. The building is surrounded by a garden designed by Gilles Clément, and a green wall by Patrick Blanc covers one of its façades. The museum is among the most visited in the world in its category.
For groups : The museum welcomes groups of 10 people or more, with compulsory booking at least fifteen days in advance. Groups visit independently, with their own guide, or on a guided tour on request lasting 90 minutes, in any language requested when booking. The museum is wheelchair accessible with assistance and offers services adapted to visually impaired visitors.
