The venue

Natural history museum with long-established collections, housed in an 18th-century building in the centre of Le Havre. Its collections, built up by the naturalist Charles Alexandre Lesueur, who was its director, cover palaeontology, prehistory and zoology, along with 8,000 drawings and manuscripts.

The 1760 building, in classical dressed stone, first served as a courthouse before becoming a museum in 1846. Hit by the bombing of 1944, it was listed as a historic monument and reopened in 2007 after renovation work. The visit thus combines natural science and the heritage of Le Havre.

For groups : For groups of 6 or more, advance booking is compulsory. Groups explore the collections and exhibitions on a self-guided visit, at their own pace; at the time of its reopening, the museum did not yet offer guided tours. The museum has coach parking.
