The venue
A large discovery park devoted to marine ecosystems, from polar to tropical. Opened in 1990 near the Moulin-Blanc marina in Brest, Océanopolis is a science centre dedicated to the ocean, combining an aquarium, a science centre and a planetarium.
The site presents around 10,000 marine animals and plants from 1,000 species, spread across pavilions devoted to temperate, polar and tropical environments. The first pavilion, designed by the architect Jacques Rougerie, recalls the shape of a crab. Around the tanks, videos, interactive terminals and panels explain the biology of the species and the protection of habitats, giving the visit a real educational dimension.
For groups : For groups of 20 or more, Océanopolis offers a guided tour in groups of 20 to 30 participants, covering the Tropical Pavilion, the Brittany Pavilion and the Otter Trail. The guide takes charge of the group on arrival, shows it around the site, organises the day and lunch, and gives the times of the activities. The Rest'O, a 120-seat area reserved for groups, serves set menus on weekdays outside school holidays, and parking is free.
