The venue
One of the largest museums in France, the Palais des Beaux-Arts de Lille is also the largest fine arts museum outside Paris in terms of the number of works on display. Founded in 1792 and opened to the public in 1809, it moved in 1892 into the palace built on Place de la République to house its collections.
From a collection of more than 70,000 works, nearly 2,000 are on display: medieval and Renaissance art, Flemish and Dutch paintings from the 15th to the 17th century, 19th-century French painting, sculpture, ceramics and fifteen relief maps of towns fortified by Vauban. Highlights include works by Rubens, Van Dyck, Goya, Delacroix and Courbet.
For groups : Adult groups are welcome by reservation from 10 people, up to a maximum of 25 people per group. Guided tours last 1 hour, 1 hour 30 or 2 hours; groups can also visit on their own with no time limit, possibly with their own guide during certain time slots. A specific admission rate applies to tourism professionals and works councils, and several first-floor galleries are closed for renovation in 2026-2027.
