The venue
Vast protected area covering the mountains and valleys of the centre of the island. The Parc naturel régional de Corse covers some 440,000 hectares, more than half of the island, and brings together 178 communes. It also manages two major sites on the west coast: the Scandola nature reserve and the Fango valley biosphere reserve.
Its wildlife and plant life include many endemic species, such as the Corsican nuthatch, the Corsican mouflon and the Laricio pine. As the island’s leading hiking operator, the park has waymarked more than 1,500 kilometres of trails, including the GR 20 and the Mare a mare and Mare e monti routes. It also looks after built heritage and the Corsican language.
