A reed-lined stream in the Cotentin Marshes regional nature park

The venue

A vast wetland, ideal for boat trips and for discovering the local wildlife. Created in 1991, the Parc naturel régional des Marais du Cotentin et du Bessin protects wet meadows that the winter floods cover, or “whiten”. Its visitor centre, the Maison du Parc, is in Saint-Côme-du-Mont.

It presents the area through a film, exhibitions and a garden, and gives access to the Ponts d’Ouve marshes, a protected natural area. River trips are offered on the Douve and the Taute. Criss-crossed by ditches, the meadows open onto the Baie des Veys, where many birds can be seen, including greylag geese and barnacle geese.

For groups : The Maison du Parc welcomes groups all year round by reservation, for a self-guided visit from Tuesday to Sunday or an outing led by a park guide from Tuesday to Friday. The 2 km trail leads to the large observatory, and a 5.7 km route can be followed in summer. Free coach parking is located 200 metres away, with no road to cross, together with a covered picnic area. The Maison, the garden, the trail and the observatory hold the Tourisme & Handicap label, and a wheelchair can be lent.
