The venue
The largest wetland in Corsica, rich in birdlife. Designated in 1994, the nature reserve covers 1,790 hectares south of Bastia and protects the Biguglia lagoon, the largest on the island, separated from the sea by the sandy spit of La Marana.
More than 120 bird species have been recorded here, including the greater flamingo, the great cormorant and the kingfisher, and many migratory birds stop over or nest here. North of the lagoon, a 16th-century Genoese fort, linked to the shore by a footbridge, houses the reserve’s ecomuseum. Devoted to fishing and animal migration, it also features an aquarium showing the fish of the lagoon.
For groups : A 1.5 km discovery trail can be walked alone or with a guide from the reserve. At the Fortin ecomuseum, the guided tour is reserved for groups and is by reservation, from June to September.
