A cleft in red rock above turquoise water in the Scandola nature reserve

The venue

A marine and land reserve reached by boat excursion, notably from Porto or Calvi. Designated in 1975, the Scandola nature reserve covers 1,669 hectares in the commune of Osani, north of the Gulf of Porto. It is a UNESCO World Heritage Site together with the Gulf of Porto, the Calanche of Piana and the Gulf of Girolata.

It can only be discovered from the sea. The peninsula is a former collapsed volcano: volcanic organ pipes, lava flows and red granite cliffs shape its landscape. These cliffs shelter many birds, including the osprey and the European shag. The reserve is managed by the Corsica Regional Nature Park.
