The venue
Europe’s first theme park dedicated to the plant world, according to its managers. Opened in 2010 north of Angers, on the site of the former Angers-Avrillé airfield, Terra Botanica belongs to the Maine-et-Loire departmental council. It showcases Anjou’s expertise in botany and horticulture.
About twelve hectares are open to visitors, with gardens, water areas and greenhouses. The route reveals plants from six continents through different settings, as well as a tropical butterfly greenhouse. Shows about plants, attractions and games round off the visit. The park also has an educational purpose: raising young people’s awareness of respect for the plant world and biodiversity.
For groups : Groups and school classes are welcomed by reservation, confirmed by a signed contract, and go through a priority « Groupes et Scolaires » ticket desk. Classes can take part in educational workshops or fun activities led by an instructor, at several times of day. A shaded picnic area is located at the park entrance, with the option of leaving and coming back, and wheelchairs are lent free of charge.
