The venue
A Renaissance château surrounded by moats, Tanlay is one of the finest in Burgundy. Built on the foundations of an older fortress, it was begun in the 16th century by François de Coligny d’Andelot and completed in the 17th century by the architect Pierre Le Muet. The château is a listed historic monument.
Inside are the so-called Caesars’ vestibule, a 21-metre state gallery with walls painted in trompe-l’œil, and the League Tower, where the Protestant leaders are said to have met during the Wars of Religion. The park retains a great canal almost 530 metres long, fed by a Renaissance nymphaeum. In 1963 the château was used as a setting for the film « Angélique, marquise des anges ».
For groups : Groups of 12 people or more are welcome all year round, by reservation only, preferably three weeks in advance. The guided tour, in French or English, lasts about 50 minutes and can be followed by a tasting of regional wines. Coach parking spaces are laid out opposite the town hall.
