The venue
Interactive museum dedicated to sailing and the history of the submarine base. Opened in 2008 in Lorient, the Cité de la Voile Éric Tabarly stands on the site of the former submarine base, within a hub devoted to offshore racing. Its building, with its maritime lines, is the work of architect Jacques Ferrier.
The exhibition, renovated in 2015, covers yacht building, sailing stories and techniques and the world of offshore racing, with films, hands-on exhibits, boat reconstructions and a simulator. The Cité is also the home port of most of Éric Tabarly’s Pen Duick yachts, which can be seen during their stopovers in Lorient.
For groups : Groups are welcome from 15 adults, on the basis of a quote drawn up with the Cité team. The guided tour of the Cité de la Voile lasts two hours and can be combined with a tour of the Pôle Course (1 hour 15) or a one-hour sea trip on a sailing boat with a professional skipper. For a snack or a cocktail, the ground-floor « Le Karré » space can be booked for private use.
