The venue
A complete replica of the decorated cave, a masterpiece of cave art. Opened at the end of 2016 in Montignac-Lascaux, near the original site, the International Centre for Cave Art, known as Lascaux IV, reproduces all the decorated parts of the cave. The building was designed by the Norwegian firm Snøhetta.
Discovered in 1940 and closed to the public in 1963 to preserve it, the Lascaux cave is one of the most important decorated caves of the Upper Palaeolithic. The replica recreates the Hall of the Bulls, the Axial Diverticulum, the Passage, the Shaft, the Apse and the Nave, with their paintings and engravings of animals. The cave has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1979.
For groups : Groups are welcomed from 20 people, by reservation. The classic tour, fully guided, lasts one hour for a maximum of 40 people, then continues freely in the exhibition spaces with an audio guide available in nine languages; Prestige and « Décryptée » formats are also offered. Admission is free for the driver and one group leader of adult groups, and for one accompanying adult per 10 pupils.
