The venue
A tour covering the history and making of cognac, with a tasting. Opened in 2004 in Cognac, in Charente, as the Musée des Arts du Cognac, it became the Musée des Savoir-faire du Cognac in 2020. It presents every stage in the making of the brandy, from growing the vines to packaging.
The museum occupies in particular the premises of the former Augier trading house, founded in 1643, on the quays where cognac was once loaded onto gabarres, traditional river boats. On display are vineyard tools and presses, bottle-making machines and a collection of bottles, labels and posters from many countries. Remains of the 14th-century ramparts can be seen inside.
For groups : The museum welcomes groups from 10 people. Guided tours are available on request, in French or English, and self-guided visits are always possible; a visit takes about an hour, and a lift serves the floors.
