The venue
Collections ranging from Egyptian antiquity to contemporary art. The Musée des Beaux-Arts de Rennes was formed from the revolutionary seizures of 1794 and owes much of its wealth to the cabinet of curiosities of the Marquis de Robien, a president of the Parliament of Brittany in the 18th century.
Its collections cover European painting and sculpture from the 14th to the 20th century, works of art from Europe, Africa and the Americas, and Egyptian, Greek, Etruscan and Roman antiquities. French painting of the 17th century is at its heart. The drawings collection holds sheets by great masters, including Leonardo da Vinci and Dürer.
For groups : Groups of 10 to 30 people are welcomed for guided tours by the museum's guides, by reservation via a form; bookings open by period, on 1 September, 1 December and 1 March. Themes range from the highlights to the cabinet of curiosities, the archaeological collections, 17th-century painting, women artists or modern and contemporary art, with a « museum tour in 60 minutes »; temporary exhibitions can also be visited as a group. Access to the permanent collections is free. The museum has a lift, lends wheelchairs and walking-stick seats, and adapts its tours to groups of people with disabilities.
