The granite houses and cobbled square of the village of Locronan

The venue

Listed among the Most Beautiful Villages of France, Locronan has preserved its granite architecture from the 17th and 18th centuries. This village in Finistère, between Quimper and Douarnenez, owes its past prosperity to the making of sailcloth, which equipped in particular the ships of the Royal Navy and the French East India Company.

The heart of the village is its cobbled square, adorned with an old well and lined with the houses of merchants and notables, including the Bureau des toiles and the house of the East India Company. It faces the Church of Saint-Ronan and the Pénity Chapel, which holds the saint’s recumbent effigy. Every year in July, the Troménie, a traditional procession, winds through the surroundings of the village.

For groups : All year round, depending on guide availability, the tourist office organises a guided walking tour of about 1 hour 30 minutes for groups, by reservation. It can be given in English, German, Spanish, Italian or Breton, and a second guide is required for groups of 35 or more. The driver goes free, and a paying coach park is located at the entrance to the village.
