Themed days of the tour
Trip can be tailored to your wishes and budget
Arrival at “Chez Pierre d’Agos”, a family-run hotel-restaurant with 60 years of history, in the heart of a small village facing the Pyrenees. Check-in.
Welcome drink, dinner and accommodation.
Breakfast. A few minutes from the hotel, discover the Parc Animalier des Pyrénées, the 3rd most beautiful zoo park in France: in a green setting, playful marmots, mischievous otters and nonchalant bears… will delight you.
Lunch at the hotel.
The afternoon will be devoted to exploring the Cirque de Gavarnie.
A must-see, this natural wonder, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, welcomes 2 million visitors each year who come to admire its 16 peaks over 3,000 m, covered in eternal snow, not forgetting its waterfall (423 m).
On the way back, stop at a Pyrenean woolen mill where you will meet passionate people who will share with you their love of a job well done, handed down over 6 generations.
Dinner, evening of Pyrenean songs and accommodation.
Breakfast. Departure for Lourdes and its sanctuaries. A small town that grew after the apparitions of 1858 to become one of the most important pilgrimage centers in the world.
Lunch at the hotel.
On to the Pont d’Espagne. Amid steep slopes and verdant forests, a multitude of tumbling waterfalls will unfold before you on the way to the Pont d’Espagne, an ancient crossing point for shepherds and smugglers. On the way back, stop in Cauterets, a famous spa town in the Pyrenees.
Dinner and accommodation.
Breakfast. Departure for the Tourmalet, the most famous Pyrenean pass of the Tour de France, and La Mongie, where you will take the cable car up to the Pic du Midi de Bigorre (2,877 m) and its museum of the stars (please note: this excursion is not recommended for people with heart conditions). You will be captivated by the exceptional panorama.
Lunch at the hotel.
Departure for the Lac d’Estaing, at an altitude of 1,000 m, nestled among mountains that are reflected in the clear waters of this ancient glacial lake; you will still feel the spirit of a few legends hovering in the air. Return via the Col des Bordères (1,156 m), which overlooks the Val d’Azun and its slate-roofed houses.
Dinner, dance evening and accommodation.
Breakfast. Departure for Saint-Savin, a small village above the Argelès-Gazost valley, and its famous abbey church; the morning will then continue with a stop at the Argelès-Gazost market (Tuesdays only).
It has been the most typical and the largest market in the valley since it was founded in 1292, and is also a must for meeting the people of the valley and discovering local producers of cheese, honey and jam.
Lunch at the hotel.
Off on a getaway to the Béarn: Pau, a town that developed under English influence, a sporting town and a town of flowers, not to mention the château where Henri IV was born. You will visit this richly furnished building, home to one of the finest collections of Gobelins tapestries. The afternoon will then continue with a tasting of Jurançon wines at a wine estate.
Dinner and accommodation.
Breakfast and departure for a day trip towards Spain.
The Tourmalet, Aspin, Peyresourde and Portillon passes, made legendary by the Tour de France, offer a magnificent spectacle for this morning devoted to the mountains.
Paella lunch in Bossòst (Val d’Aran).
Free time for some shopping, then return via Saint-Bertrand-de-Comminges and its cathedral (admission to the choir stalls and cloister included), where many pilgrims on the Way of Saint James come to honor the relics of this former bishop of Comminges.
