Themed days of the tour
Trip can be tailored to your wishes and budget
Arrival in the morning, lunch and visit of Roman Arles, a veritable open-air museum.
During the walk through the streets of the old town, you will discover the beautiful private mansions built from the 16th to the 18th century in the golden stone of the Alpilles, the amphitheatre (visit of the arena), the ancient theatre, the town hall and many other architectural treasures.
Then on to the monumental Carrières des Lumières, which host multimedia shows unique in the world. Each year a major new show presents the greatest names in art history. The shows are projected onto the immense 14-metre-high walls, the pillars and the floors of the quarry, over a surface of 7,000 m².
They carry you away, to music, into colourful worlds. A new lighting design of the quarries reveals the unique and unusual character of the place and its mineral beauty. The new 2019 show invites you to explore the teeming world painted by Vincent van Gogh and his love for Arles and Provence.
Return to the hotel, complimentary welcome aperitif around a brasucade, dinner and overnight stay.
Breakfast.
Departure for Saint-Guilhem-le-Désert.
Listed among the most beautiful villages in France and a “Grand Site”, this medieval village lies on the edge of the Hérault gorges, spanned by the Pont du Diable, a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The Pont du Diable is considered one of the oldest medieval bridges in France; the abbey, dating from 804, houses the relics of the Holy Cross given by Charlemagne. A very important stage on the Way of St James to Santiago de Compostela.
Lunch by the gorges, then in the early afternoon, visit of the Grotte de Clamouse.
On the way back, tasting of Pays de l’Hérault wines.
Return to the hotel, dinner and overnight stay.
Breakfast, then on to one of the oldest Cistercian abbeys, the Abbaye de Valmagne, a listed historic monument.
Discovery of the “cathedral of the vines”, 83 m long and 24.50 m high, as well as the cloister and the gardens with their Florentine charm.
Visit of the chapter house with its basket-handle vault, and of the fountain, one of the few preserved in a Cistercian abbey.
Stroll in the gardens before tasting the organic wines of the oldest wine estate in Languedoc-Roussillon.
Lunch.
In the early afternoon, departure for Narbonne, whose highly diverse heritage allows you to grasp the major periods of its two-thousand-year history.
You can travel through the heart of Narbonne’s history aboard the little train.
We invite you to complete your visit by discovering the former Palais des Archevêques, the second largest archiepiscopal complex after the Palais des Papes in Avignon, made up of the Romanesque Old Palace and the Gothic New Palace.
Visit of Saint-Paul cathedral and return to your home region.
