Trip description
Between the ocean and the Pyrenees, the Basque Country charms visitors with its red-and-white villages, living culture and gastronomy. Setting out from La Bastide-Clairence, listed among the Most Beautiful Villages of France, this group trip links Bayonne, Biarritz, Saint-Jean-de-Luz, Espelette and La Rhune, with an excursion into Spain to Hondarribia and plenty of tastings.

Arrival at Les Collines Iduki in the late afternoon.
Luggage transfer and check-in to the apartments, where a welcome gift awaits you.
Presentation of the stay, and an aperitif will be offered at a dinner with a local flavour.
Overnight stay.
Breakfast.
Visit of Espelette, the famous pepper village. Then meet a pepper grower who will welcome you to his farm and tell you all the secrets of Espelette pepper production, with a tasting.
Lunch in the area.
The Basque Country is also about chocolate: discover the history of the cocoa bean in Cambo-les-Bains at the artisan chocolate maker Puyodebat.
Visit of his extraordinary chocolate museum and, to finish, a generous tasting of 10 chocolates.
Return to Iduki. Dinner and overnight stay.

La Rhune mountain (905 m high), climbed aboard the little rack railway dating from 1924. The sacred mountain of the Basques offers one of the finest panoramas, from San Sebastián to the beaches of the Landes.
Lunch in the area.
On to the village of Sare to dive into the history of the smugglers! You will then end the day by discovering how the famous gâteau basque is made, with a tasting of course.
Return to Iduki. Dinner and overnight stay.

Guided tour of the magnificent village of Saint-Jean-de-Luz, with its traditional fishing port, its bay and its authentic little streets.
Lunch in the area.
Free time to discover Hondarribia (Fontarrabie), a Spanish fishing village with colourful pedestrian streets. Then on to Irun for free time among the “ventas”, small traditional shops.
The perfect place to go shopping, pick up souvenirs and taste Spanish specialities.
Return to Iduki. Dinner and overnight stay.

Discovery of this typical Navarrese bastide: La Bastide-Clairence is listed among the “Plus Beaux Villages de France” (Most Beautiful Villages of France). Then on to Saint-Martin-d’Arberoue to meet a family of dairy sheep farmers who make and mature their AOP Ossau-Iraty cheeses on the farm.
Lunch at Iduki.
On to Bayonne for a visit full of charm.
Then meet an artisan charcutier to discover how the famous Bayonne ham is made, followed by a tasting.
Return to Iduki. Dinner and overnight stay.
Breakfast.
Off to the Landes for free time at the town market, followed by a guided tour. Then meet the Barthouil family, passionate about their craft for three generations: they make foie gras and smoke salmon and trout.
Lunch at Iduki.
Biarritz, known as “the queen of beaches and the beach of kings”, is a must-see in the Basque Country: a ride on the little train from the lighthouse to the legendary Rocher de la Vierge.
Return to Iduki. Dinner and overnight stay.

On to Pau to visit the castle of Henri IV, standing in the heart of the town, facing the Pyrenees and overlooking the Gave: it is the town’s emblematic monument.
Lunch in Pau, where you will taste Henri IV’s famous poule au pot.
Then on to Oloron-Sainte-Marie to discover Les Tissages Lartigue 1910, weavers for more than four generations. Today, this house carries on the art of weaving with great creativity and passion, respecting tradition and the environment.
Return to Iduki. Dinner and overnight stay.
